The South Coast Sourdough Bread Winners

Award-winning sourdough for your South Coast picnics.

Sourdough shines in every season — but we’re starting to think that spring is its prime. It looks like this: picnics by the lake that celebrate longer days, casual parties and get-togethers as the festive season ramps up, and simple afternoons outdoors.

All you need is the ingredients for an easy platter that’s arranged at a moment’s notice. A bit of this and a bit of that to keep the crowd happy for hours.

Our advice? Keep your favourite artisan bread on hand — just in case.

Your Picnic Loaves

Every day, we’ve got fresh sourdough on the Lagom Bakery shelves, with daily staples and specials. If you’re looking for a loaf that’s guaranteed to hit the spot, start with one from the list below — our bread winners with awards that seal their goodness.

Fruit Loaf

A special breakfast loaf (or any meal, really) loaded with dried fruits (sultana, cranberry, prune, currant) and steeped in Earl Grey tea. We love it with a slab of butter and local jam, but a slice of cheese goes down pretty nicely, too.

Champion Loaf of the Show at Wollongong Baking Show 2023.

Olive + Herb Sourdough

House dough packed with naturally fermented olives, thyme, rosemary and a little lemon. Make an extra-special sandwich for the beach, and definitely add it to the charcuterie board for something a little different.

Winner of the Savoury Bread category at Wollongong Baking Show 2023.

Baguette

It practically screams ‘picnic!!’ Consider the sourdough baguette (either seeded or plain) the essential item for the basket — just rip into the white dough with a crunchy crust, then dip it, dunk it and savour it.

Champion Loaf of the Show at Wollongong Baking Show 2024.

Cheese + Jalapeño Sourdough

This one rarely makes it to the car without pulling a slice from the bag (it’s the buyer’s treat). Our house dough is fused with pickled jalapeño and cheese cubes, turning up the heat on daily bread, and adding some spice to your spread.

Winner of the Savoury Bread category at Wollongong Baking Show 2024.

Seedy House

Our signature sourdough with a crunchy, flavourful twist, this loaf is rolled in a specialty homemade seed blend of sesame, nigella, fennel, sunflower and pepitas. It’s perfect for a nibble, no matter where you are.

Silver in the Sour Dough category at the Sydney Royal Professional Bakery 2025.

Multi Loaf

The secret to this sourdough is soaking the grains and seeds in local honey. It’s got that subtle sweetness that makes for a more-ish loaf, and a welcome accompaniment to your chosen cheese.

Bronze at the Sour Dough category in the Sydney Royal Professional Bakery 2025.

Bagel

Extra chewy and dense with a deliciously crisp crust, our sourdough bagels are made for breakfasting, brunching and lunching. Take your seeded or plain ring, then fill it with smoked trout, cream cheese, capers and rocket for a packable feast.

Bronze in the International Bread category at the Sydney Royal Professional Bakery 2025.

Plan your picnic, party, or get-together of any sort. Find these loaves and more at Lagom, your local South Coast bakery, and don’t forget to pre-order the hits so you’ll never miss out.
