We’re on a Sustainable Bakery (+ Community) Mission (part one)

And it starts with packaging.

a sustainable, reusable good cup filled with an iced long black, sitting on a wooden bench.

Let’s address this from the outset: we will never claim we’re perfect. But we can promise that we’re always doing our best to be a community-minded and sustainable bakery.

These are some of the ways we’re moving forward every day. (If you’ve got suggestions, we’re always open to hearing them!)

We love BYO packaging

BYO is best! Do you know how giddy we get when you walk in with a container from home, ready to be filled with pizza slices and pastries? Or you carry a keep cup (a mug, a jar, anything goes) for your morning coffee? Or, even better, you bring your Lagom bread bag? Truly, it makes our day.

For all the times you forget, we have our SWOP mug system for drink-in beverages. Grab a mug from the counter and order your sip of choice, then return it to our basket when you’re done for washing and reusing.

If you need to take it away, a Good Cup is the next best thing. We’re obsessed with what Jonas and the team have developed. These takeaway-style cups are made in Australia from 100% BPA- and BPS-free materials, are recyclable, and are dangerously (gloriously) convenient.

Let us know you’d love to use one, and we’ll add a $3 deposit to your order. Sip and enjoy, then return it to any participating venue across the country for your $3 refund. We’ve got a bunch of other local cafes on board (including some of our stockists), so you can swap between any of these — and hopefully more soon:

Our other stuff is pretty good, too

We use paper bags and cardboard boxes — all recyclable and compostable. Same with our stickers (from Sustainable Printing Co.). We love ‘em!

And although our preference is a reusable drinking receptacle, our choice of cups ain’t bad at all. I Am Not Paper Co cups and lids are 100% tree-free, made from plant pulp (repurposed plant and vegetable waste) instead. This means they’re home-compostable and way more enviro-friendly than your traditional plastic-lined paper cup, and can be reused in lots of clever ways too — a planter, a pen holder, or prepared for a coffee refill.

It all works better when we work together.

Phew, that’s a lot for one day. Stay tuned for part two.
